How Much Does a Wedding Photographer Cost in Vancouver?

It's usually one of the first questions couples ask, and it's a fair one. Wedding photography is one of the bigger decisions in your budget, and prices from one photographer to the next can look very different.
In this guide I'll explain what actually changes the price of wedding photography in Vancouver, what my own starting prices are, and how to figure out how much coverage you really need, so you can plan with confidence.
My Prices at a Glance
Here are my current starting prices. Every wedding is different, so each collection can be customized to the coverage you need.
- Weddings: from $1,000, customizable depending on the coverage you request
- Elopements: from $800
- Surprise proposals: from $200
- Engagement sessions: from $180

What Affects the Cost of a Wedding Photographer?
Most of the difference between one quote and another comes down to a few things.
1. Hours of coverage
This is the biggest factor. Photographing only the ceremony and portraits takes far less time than covering everything from getting ready to the last dance. More hours means a higher price, but it also means more of your day is documented.
Not sure how many hours you need? I wrote a full guide on that: How Much Wedding Photography Coverage Do You Need in Vancouver?.
2. Your timeline and locations
A day that stays in one venue is simpler than one with getting-ready in one place, a ceremony in another and a reception across town. Travel time between locations is part of your coverage, so a spread-out day can need more hours.
3. Guest count and the size of the day
Larger weddings usually have more family photos, more moments happening at once and a longer reception. Smaller weddings and elopements are often more relaxed and can need less coverage.
4. Adding an engagement session
Many couples add an engagement session before the wedding. It's a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera, and you get photos you can use for save-the-dates or your wedding website.

Wedding vs. Elopement: Which Costs Less?
An elopement is usually a shorter, more intimate celebration: just the two of you, or a handful of guests, often somewhere scenic. Because there's typically less to cover, elopement photography starts lower, at $800, compared with $1,000 for a wedding.
That said, the right choice depends on your plans, not just the price. If you're dreaming of a sunrise ceremony at a lookout or a quiet day with your closest people, an elopement can be a beautiful option. If you want every guest, speech and dance captured, full wedding coverage makes more sense.
Is a Cheaper Photographer Worth It?
Price matters, but it shouldn't be the only thing you compare. Before booking anyone, look at full galleries (not just highlights), read their reviews, and make sure you feel comfortable with them. You'll spend a lot of your wedding day with your photographer.
